What is a no claims bonus?
Also known as a no claims discount, no claims bonus (NCB) is a discount offered to policyholders for each year they DO NOT make a claim on their insurance policy.
A no claims bonus is cumulative so the more years that pass where you don’t make a claim, the bigger the discount you receive on your premium.
How do I prove I have a protected no claims bonus?
If you’re thinking about switching insurance companies, you may have to show proof of no claims or claims history from your previous insurer to continue to avail of the discount.
A no claims bonus certificate is usually provided each time you renew your insurance. This can be used to show proof of no claims. If you don’t have it, you can contact your insurer to request proof.
Should I protect my no claims bonus?
If you've spent the past few years building up your no claims points, it would be a shame to lose some or all of them if you haven't reported a claim.
To help protect your NCB it’s worth opting into No Claims Bonus Protection. You can opt to add this protection when you take our your insurance. It will ensure you don't lose your discount if you make a claim.
If you do however make more than one claim in any given insurance year, then your bonus may be affected. No claims bonus protection also doesn't protect the price of your overall insurance quote.
How do I find out how many no claims bonus years I have?
A no claims bonus certificate is usually provided each time you renew your insurance. If you don't have this you can contact your insurer to request proof.
Does claiming home emergency assistance affect my no claims bonus?
Typically claiming for a home emergency doesn't impact your home insurance no claims bonus as home emergency is a separate policy/optional extra. It does however depend on your policy so it's important to always check the terms and conditions or contact your insurer to confirm.
Can a no claims bonus from another property be used for a new home insurance policy?
Yes you can use a no claims bonus earned on another property for your new home insurance policy as long as it is no longer active.
Can a no claims bonus from another car be used for a new car insurance policy?
Yes you can use a no claims bonus earned on another car for your new car insurance policy as long as it is no longer active.
Can I still use my no claims bonus if it wasn't earned in the UK?
Unfortunately only bonus earned in the UK and Ireland can be used when you take out your insurance with us.
