- A modified car is any change that’s been made so it different from the manufacturer’s original factory specification. Failure to declare any modifications can invalidate a car insurance policy so it’s vital that they are listed.
- Modifications include both performance and cosmetic changes. Performance modifications include engine remapping/chipping, turbochargers, exhaust systems, upgraded suspension and braking systems. Cosmetic changes include body kits, spoilers, alloy wheels and technical modifications like parking sensors. Interior changes such as upgrades to seats and the steering wheel as well as audio/entertainment systems also need to be declared.
- All car modifications need to be declared as they can increase the overall value of the car and are often expensive to repair/replace. Performance changes can alter the cars power and speed which could be deemed a higher risk of accidents. Visually attractive changes can attract thieves as well.
